Why fittings matter more than brands

Compatibility in this category runs on physical fittings, and the fittings do not respect brand boundaries in either direction. Brita sells two entirely incompatible cartridge families under one name on opposite sides of the Atlantic. Dafi, BWT and half a dozen own-brands sell cartridges built to Brita's international fitting that drop straight into a Brita jug.

So the useful question is never "which brand of filter do I need". It is "which fitting does my jug take", and once you know that, several brands are usually available to you.
