BWT's argument is that stripping a water supply of everything dissolved in it is not obviously an improvement, so its cartridges remove the chlorine and hardness compounds and then mineralise the water with magnesium on the way out. The taste difference is real and most noticeable in tea and coffee, where extraction chemistry responds to mineral content. This is the cartridge for BWT's own jugs — BWT also makes a separate MAXTRA-fitting version for Brita jugs, which is a different product.
