If your Brita jug is more than a decade old it may take the Classic cartridge — a squat white cylinder, quite unlike the tall keyed MAXTRA. The two are not interchangeable in either direction, and no adapter exists. Classic cartridges are still sold but the range is shrinking; if you are buying a supply, this is the point at which replacing the jug is the cheaper decision.
