How we choose

What we do, what we do not do, and how we make money.

Compatibility comes first, and it comes from the jug

Every compatibility statement on this site is declared on the jug — what it accepts — and the reverse view is derived from that. It means a cartridge page and a jug page can never contradict each other, which sounds obvious until you notice how often retailer sites manage it.

Where a third-party cartridge is built to another brand’s fitting, we say so and we say which. That inheritance is computed rather than hand-listed, so a new third-party cartridge appears on every jug it fits without anyone remembering to add it.

Evidence levels, not marketing claims

Every cartridge carries one of three labels: certified, lab tested, or manufacturer’s claim. The industry presents all three identically and the difference is substantial. Read the full explanation on our certification page.

Where we rank cartridges for a specific contaminant, we rank by evidence, not by brand or by popularity. That regularly puts a less famous cartridge above a household name, and that is the point.

We say what jugs cannot do

A gravity jug does not remove fluoride, does not remove bacteria, and does not soften your house. Several pages here exist mainly to say so, which is a strange thing for a shopping site to publish and the reason we think the rest is worth trusting.

No prices — deliberately

This is a global site. The same cartridge costs different amounts in different currencies, and our links send you to the Amazon store for your own country. A single price on the page would be wrong everywhere but one place, so there is not one — you see the live price where you actually buy.

What we do not do

We do not mark up product data as though we were the seller. We are an affiliate, and adding Product or Offer structured markup to someone else’s listing is both dishonest and, under Google’s guidelines, risky.

We do not publish laboratory testing of our own. Where we cite a reduction figure it comes from the manufacturer or a certifying body, and the page says which.
