The Standard filter is what is in the box when you buy a Brita pitcher in the United States or Canada. It is an activated carbon and ion exchange cartridge certified for chlorine taste and odour, mercury, copper, cadmium and zinc — a genuine improvement in how the water tastes, and a much smaller improvement in what is dissolved in it. It is not certified for lead. The blue Elite cartridge is, fits the same pitchers, and lasts three times as long.

Does not reduce
Listed because it is the more useful half. Every cartridge on the market reduces chlorine taste; what separates them is what they leave behind.
Independently audited against a named standard by a certification body such as NSF, WQA or IAPMO, with the listing published and the factory subject to inspection. This is the strongest claim available.
Certified to NSF/ANSI 42 for aesthetic effects — chlorine, taste and odour — and to NSF/ANSI 53 for mercury, copper, cadmium and zinc. Not certified for lead; that is the Elite cartridge.

Brita Standard questions
Which jugs take the Brita Standard?
8 jugs in our data take this cartridge: Brita Everyday Pitcher, Brita Large 10-Cup Pitcher, Brita Small 6-Cup Pitcher, Brita UltraMax Dispenser, Brita X-Large 27-Cup Dispenser, Brita Grand, Brita Monterey, Brita Tahoe.
How long does a Brita Standard cartridge last?
Rated at 40 gallons (151 L) · 2 months.
That is a throughput figure rather than a calendar one. Hard water and heavy use both exhaust a cartridge sooner than the box suggests.
Is the Brita Standard certified?
Independently audited against a named standard by a certification body such as NSF, WQA or IAPMO, with the listing published and the factory subject to inspection. This is the strongest claim available.
Certified to NSF/ANSI 42 for aesthetic effects — chlorine, taste and odour — and to NSF/ANSI 53 for mercury, copper, cadmium and zinc. Not certified for lead; that is the Elite cartridge.
Will a Brita MAXTRA PRO filter fit instead?
No. Brita MAXTRA PRO is the same brand but a different fitting, and the two do not interchange in either direction.
This is the most common mistake in the Brita range, and there is no adapter.
