What the LifeStraw Home Filters actually removes

Taken from the manufacturer’s own reduction claims, with the evidence level stated.

Does not reduce

Listed because it is the more useful half. Every cartridge on the market reduces chlorine taste; what separates them is what they leave behind.

Lab tested

Tested to the method of a named standard, usually by an independent laboratory, but not certified — no ongoing audit, no published listing with the certifying body. Better than nothing, weaker than certification, and routinely presented as though it were the same thing.

Tested to NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and P231 protocols by independent laboratories. P231 is the microbiological protocol and is the reason this jug can make a bacteria claim at all — no ordinary carbon jug can.

Buying the LifeStraw Home Pitcher itself

For anyone here to replace the jug rather than the cartridge.

LifeStraw Home Pitcher questions

Which filter fits the LifeStraw Home Pitcher?

The LifeStraw Home Pitcher takes the LifeStraw Home Filters cartridge, which is what it ships with.

No other cartridge family fits this jug.

How often does the LifeStraw Home Pitcher need a new cartridge?

The LifeStraw Home Filters is rated at 40 gallons (151 L) · 2 months. That figure assumes average water — in a hard-water area the ion exchange resin is exhausted sooner, sometimes considerably sooner.

Volume is the honest measure rather than the calendar. A household of four reaches the rated throughput far quicker than one person does.

How much water does the LifeStraw Home Pitcher hold?

Capacity is 7 cups / 1.65 L.
